Imagine, in this age of concern for Climate Change and global pollution levels, if an aircraft traveling from Sydney to London burned 30% more fuel than it needed to: fuel that would otherwise take the aircraft onward from London to New York.
That is exactly what happens with all compressor based air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Fully 30% of energy used in cooling is literally burned away. The problem is that high-pressure liquid refrigerant available for cooling starts to boil if the compressor continues to run. In boiling, the heat generated in this liquid refrigerant takes away from cooling efficiency which in turn means that the compressor has to run longer to cool a room down. In summary, a vicious cycle.
The cooling industry recognise refrigerant boiling as a problem. Sadly though, new technologies such as variable speed inverter drives and electronic expansion valves provide only a partial energy saving solution. These reduce the refrigerant boiling point and therefore energy consumption but the liquid refrigerant is still boiling and the compressor is still running.
Happily, COOLNOMIX® makes use of our internationally patented Optimised Refrigeration Supply (ORS®) technology to detect the onset of refrigerant boiling in compressor based air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
