The management at one of Japan’s largest rice storage companies were both delighted and concerned when COOLNOMIX® units reduced the cooling energy demand in their warehouses by an average of 80%.
The situation is that rice needs to be stored at or below 13°C (55.4°F) to maintain its freshness. To achieve this our client’s cooling costs had been at a very high level for many years and they wished to see what reduction might be achieved using our AI based COOLNOMIX® carbon footprint reduction technology. Initial results with multiple COOLNOMIX® units at 13°C delivered average savings of 80%; figures that were both real but also unbelievable even by our standards. On investigation it became clear that the actual pre-COOLNOMIX® rice temperature in each warehouse had been at 8°C (46.4°F) because thermostat sensors had been installed in contact with metal structural beams at temperatures above the desired setpoint. The partial fix was to re-position these thermostat sensors to sample air rather than metal temperatures.
Having completed the partial fix this client is now enjoying real energy savings of 80% compared with their original design and actual COOLNOMIX® delivered savings of 32% in operating costs compared with the corrected thermostat arrangement.
